2020 Student Design Competition Results
This year’s Student Design Competition was a huge success! While we had to shift to a virtual only format, we received numerous entries and the judges enjoyed reviewing each submission.
Opening the event was our ‘Ask an Architect’ panel discussion, followed by a social, and then the Awards presentation. This year we had 27 student design entries, from two participating local college programs, with 7 winning entries selected by our 5 person Jury.
Thank you to our Board of Directors, our Jury participants, we are pleased to continue to support our local valley students.

This entry has a nice concept, with an elegant and understandable design concept. The architecture is appropriate for a winery and tasting facility, as well as responding to the local climate of the valley. The architectural imagery also relates well to its surroundings, with strong meaningful concepts reflecting the concept well. The presentation is well organized and pleasing to look at, with a nice composition and easy to understand graphics.
Second Place Jury comments:
This entry has a well-organized plan, with a good balance of modern and traditional architectural elements. The overall design is appropriate for a winery, also providing a very buildable solution. The composition of the presentation and the graphics were done very well with a very professional, high level of rendering, and good use of materials.
Third Place Jury comments:
This entry is a bold and daring design statement, providing a nice modernist building. This design would present an exciting venue for wine tasting, with dynamic forms and pleasant architectural imagery. While it may not look like a typical winery, the design is appears to be well thought out and executed. The presentation is strong with nice composition and easy to understand graphics.
Honorable Mention Jury comments:
This entry has a practical and economical design. The architectural plan and structure are well thought out with a nice concept leading to a strong design. The Board composition is well done with good graphics delineating the design very well and a nice background to tie it all together.
Honorable Mention Jury comments:
This entry has a reasonable and constructable design. The architectural design is very simple and clean, while the two different buildings reflect their different uses but complement each other very well. The graphic presentation is readable, with nice graphics and renderings.
